DYNAMIC EARTH GALLERY
The Earth can be viewed as a set of dynamic systems, the atmosphere, hydrosphere, geosphere and biosphere which interact with each other. The largest forces that change our planet’s surface are movements within the Earth’s outer layer in a process called “Plate Tectonics”. This exhibition includes an interactive Earth globe model of 1.5m in diameter that demonstrates and explains integrated Earth systems shaped and maintained by presently active geological forces. Computer displays will monitor current geological processes displaying real-time data on present earthquakes and volcanic activities within the geosphere around the globe and in the region.

EARTH EVOLUTION
With a world-class collection of rocks, minerals and genuine fossils from China as well as attractive interactive displays this gallery showcases the origin and evolution of our dynamic planet Earth and life from 4.5 billion years ago until the present with examples relevant to the China region. It shows that our planet has always been a truly dynamic and ever-changing planet with the earth systems interacting through time and determining the character of our planet today.

EARTH MATERIALS
This exhibition introduces the fascinating world of minerals and rocks, how they form and how they are being used in our daily life. The display exhibits a great variety of different minerals and rocks from all over the world which are part of a comprehensive mineral and rock collection donated by Dr. Stephen Hui. A systematic mineral collection, a gemstone collection and rock cycle display are the principal exhibits in the Earth Material gallery. One also can experience how fluorescent minerals in ordinary-looking rocks become more glamorous under ultra-violet light in the dark setting of our Museum’s small theater.

GEOLOGICAL HISTORY OF HONG KONG GALLERY
Despite being a densely populated and a highly developed metropolitan city, Hong Kong has a surprisingly rich and fascinating geodiversity and abundant attractive landforms as a result of its 400 million year long geological history. This gallery displays the geological evolution of Hong Kong from the oldest rocks in Hong Kong of Devonian age, the 400 Ma sedimentary rocks of the Bluff Head Formation, to the present environment. It also demonstrates the history of geological activities in Hong Kong as well as the influences the geological evolution has had on the historical and modern Hong Kong environment.
